Internet users are increasingly turning to online video as a way to gather information—and many business owners are taking notice. A number of companies are using online video technology as a go-to way to conduct internal communications, and new software—from key players like Kaltura and Intercall—is helping them to keep up.

Cisco predicts 90 percent of all Internet traffic will be video by 2014, and companies like Microsoft Services Asia and IBM already regularly use video as a way to communicate internally with employees. Microsoft shares video podcasts with workers on a weekly basis, and IBM uses video for conducting training and staff meetings.

The use of video isn’t limited to companies of this scope and size, either—a recent study found 93 percent of internal communications teams see video as an important technology for sharing information with employees. Companies like Kaltura, a leading open source video platform provider, have been providing enterprise video software for years. The company, founded in 2006, offers employers new ways to collaborate and share information with their workers.

Kaltura’s robust video platform helps companies to build an internal corporate YouTube that can be used by employees, customers and other stakeholders across the enterprise. For large companies, this can be a huge advantage—tech giant Groupon recently announced it would begin using Kaltura’s software to create a system for internal communication among its 12,000 employees. In fact, over 150,000 companies already use Kaltura’s interactive software, including Bank of America, Coldwell Banker and Best Buy.

And as more companies turn to video as a way to communicate, even more software is cropping up to serve their needs. Intercall, the world’s largest conferencing and collaboration services provider and a subsidiary of West Corporation, recently announced a new internal video platform it calls CorporateTube. The video content management solution comes through a new partnership with Kaltura. Intercall, through Kaltura’s video technology, allows businesses to store, manage, and distribute their videos in one location.

The software helps companies leverage video as a way to exchange information, collaborate, and train employees. Employees can upload videos and even view video analytic to help them determine the effectiveness of their internal video strategies—and work to improve them.

This type of enterprise software is becoming common in the workforce—in fact, enterprise software is expected to be a $4.5 billion industry by 2016.

With online video traffic at an all-time high, companies are recognizing the importance of leveraging this technology as an efficient way to communicate with employees. In a world where our workforce is becoming increasingly mobile, online video stands to dramatically change the way we conduct our communications.
